iPhone Review: Tap Tap Revenge 2 (Free!)

There’s not much to say here besides that this is probably the greatest game ever created. Besides this next paragraph, I’m just gonna make a list of things that make this game awesome because that’s all it needs.

Tap Tap Revolution was one of the first iPhone apps; you actually had to jail break you iPhone to play it (before Apple allowed third party apps). It’s came a long distance since then though. TTP is basically just Dance Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero on your iPhone, played by tapping the screen (and moving your iPhone left, right, or up and down).

Okay here’s the list of awesome:

  • There are over 150 songs, which you can either download (pick and choose), or if you play online then they just download before you play (which takes about 15 seconds).
  • You can play online against up to what appears to be around 30 people at once, competing for the best score. The room just plays song after song with 30 second breaks in between.
  • You have a friends list that you can join a friends game with, or you can search by people nearby to play with as well.
  • When you finish a song you can send a challenge to a friend to see if they can beat you.
  • You have an online profile that shows your rank, photo, location, scores, and achievements.
  • Three’s achievements (which they call your career), so you have something to strive for in the long run.
  • You can connect to your Facebook account to post you’re amazing scores.
  • There is a two player mode where you use the same iPhone. You simply use each end of the iPhone.
  • Many of the songs have custom skins or themes that change the whole look of the screen when playing that song (which matches the theme of the song).
  • There are frequent tournaments to win prizes.
  • The menu system and gameplay and…well everything look spectacular.
  • It’s free!

There are a few very small things I believe Tap Tap Revenge should add though (and they’ve been amazing with updates!). There should be a way to post scores to Twitter and Facebook every time you finish a game (a single button, making it very easy). Also, I think when you challenge someone on your friends list, one should be able to post to Facebook if they have connected it to their account instead of sending them an email as it does now. Also, maybe it’s just my iPod but the arrows (where you have to shake the iPhone) work for me about 25% of the time. I know I’m doing it right. I’ve tried every way I can think of to get it to work.

So download this game immediately because it’s the great thing ever invented. And its free!
