Metal Gear Solid Touch is a shooting gallery type game, like many, many other iPhone games you can already buy for cheaper. The difference is that MGS:T features MGS characters and story, and is extremely well polished, as it’s clear this was a big, expensive project. Since this game is pretty high-priced as an iPhone game, at $7.99, it better darn well have some features that make it worth more than a $.99 shooting gallery game.
The gameplay itself isn’t anything special, and if anything is less than other shooting gallery game. You have two guns: a short range and a long range, which you switch with by pinching the screen. You simply tap to shoot and enemies shoot at you on timed intervals which is indicated my a timer on each enemy’s head.
Apart from the gameplay, the menus are gorgeous and the graphics in game are amazing. The story told throughout the campaign is simply a retelling of MGS4′s story (except in a more boring way in my opinion, I just skipped through the story after a while) through small sections of text after each level. You get points for how well you do on each level and with those you can buy wallpapers for your iPhone/iPod.
All in all, I wouldn’t buy this game unless you really like shooting gallery games and want another one that’s amazingly polished, or if you really love MGS and absolutely need more of it. But I love MGS and I wouldn’t buy this game for $7.99. Regardless, definitely download and play the lite version of it to get a taste and decide then.
